The Argan Tree

one of the oldest trees in the world , is (a town) located in the South of Morocco ( UNESCO protected ). The argan tree has a life expectancy of 250 to 400 years .
First fruits are to be expected after five years , which reached first crop at the age of 50 to 60 years. The first crops beginn when the tree is already 50 or 60 years old.

The dried fruits (which have) fall on the ground, and are collected in the summer months by hand. The dry pulp is removed ; then the extremely hard (seeds) cores are grounded using two stones by hand to extract the seeds (platelets containing therein) which are inside.

For a gourmet Argan Oil the seed flakes are toasted. For Argan used in cosmetics, the oil seed flakes are ground in a stone or metal mill, (which then creates a slurry) the slurry which results is ten kneaded with lukewarm water until it segregates the oil.

To produce one liter of argan oil about 30 kg of fruit (about 4.5 kg of fruit cores) are required , That is circa 38 hours (one week ) of labor.
